Professional Communications — Practice Emails (PDFs)

For Secondary Principles and Practices, one of the valuable skills we were able to practice was professional communication. Many pre-service teachers don’t have much experience sending a professional email to somebody, whether it be a colleague, superior, or external party. The professional communication assignments allowed us the chance to build the important skill of initiating a professional interaction in multiple contexts including teacher to parent contact regarding their child’s performance, teacher to administrator contact for funding, and teacher to community contact for field trips or guest presenters. These assignments also gave us the opportunity to practice professional responses including teacher to parent contact regarding a negative email regarding one’s teaching methods, and teacher to administrator contact regarding an increase to an already maxed out class size.
